Setting the agenda for public sector digital

Since last year’s PublicTechnology Live event, there has been: a general election; a change of administration; claims of a substantial shortfall in public finances; a major reorganisation of government’s digital and data functions; the conclusion of a three-year cross-departmental transformation strategy, a budget and two spending reviews, setting out billions of pounds of tech investment. Even in a world as rapid and relentless as technology, this represents a huge amount of change.

The 2025 edition of our annual conference will gather together leaders and pioneers from across the sector to examine the enormous opportunities and profound risks that have been created as a result – and the central role that digital and data will play in meeting them in the coming months, years, and decades.

Attendees will have the chance to engage with presentations from, and participate in discussions with, the most senior – as well as the most innovative – figures from the public sector tech sphere.

Sessions will explore organisations’ current transformation priorities, and how these will, ultimately, impact citizens and frontline services.

Watch the highlights video from the 2024 event.

With over 20 speakers including two permanent secretaries, two second permanent secretaries , a CEO, two CTOs and the newly-appointed Chief Strategy Officer for CDDO the conference delivered high-quality, strategy-led content.

There were also fascinating sessions from local government leaders, representation from the Scottish Government and plenty of industry expertise provided by our sponsoring organisations.

Our 2025 agenda, to be published shortly, will address the concerns that define the daily working lives of technologists, such as managing budgets and ensuring effective procurement, building adequate workforce skills, mitigating legacy tech, getting the most out of data, and trying to carve out room for emerging tech and experimentation.

Key areas of focus will include:

  • The significance and impact of changes in government’s digital structures and strategies
  • What is next for digital public services – including apps, AI, and analytics
  • Ensuring engagement in digital and data objectives – from ministers to citizens
  • Managing infrastructure and mitigating legacy risks
  • Recruitment and retention of key skills

Excellent use of a day, great network, great presentations and superb venue.
A lot of valuable insight from a range of speakers.
It was just what I was looking for. It led to a new proposal being developed and submitted.
